Property Tax Information

Mayor Peter Corroon presented his proposal for the 2011 budget plan to the Salt Lake County Council on in October, 2010. The plan, which was approved by the council in December 2011, recommended no tax or fee increases. Major goals of the budget plan includes: maintain the county's AAA Bond rating, establish a plan to get back on track with employee benefits and salaries, and stabilize the budget for future planning. The mayor has since presented his proposed 2012 budget to the County Council, on November 1, 2011.

Residents often have many questions regarding who they pay their taxes to, and how taxes are calculated. Salt Lake County is responsible for collecting taxes for many different entities, including school districts, cities, sewer districts, mosquito abatement districts, and other special improvement districts.

The amount you pay is based on the budgets of the different taxing entities. Salt Lake County controls the budgets of the county’s general government, county library services, and municipal services for the unincorporated county.
